"Developers told the [Huron County] planning commission the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is involved with the development..." but do the developers pay heed to the USFWS recommendations? Apparently not...the Garden Peninsula extends 21 miles into Lake Michigan from Michigan's U.P. with Big Bay de Noc along one side and Lake Michigan along the other and according to the USFWS, a 3 mile setback would be difficult to achieve at "any place within the Garden Peninsula."

Wind Farm on West Side of State Construction Starts November 7th 10/30/2011 Associated Press (Michigan)
- Consumers Energy says construction will start November 7th on a Wind-energy project with 56 huge turbines east of Lake Michigan. The Ludington Daily News says the utility disclosed the date in a notice that was mailed Friday. The project is called The Lake Winds Energy Park, Located in two townships in Mason County, 90 miles north of Grand Rapids. The first phase of construction will be excavation for access roads and turbine foundations. The Mason County Road Commission still must approve a road plan. Action expected Tuesday.
